Who are you? My name is Olivia Austin and I am a current Psychology student at Clemson.
How did you get interested in technology? As a Millennial, I grew up in what some may deem the age of technology and new media. Social media has encapsulated the society I have grown up in, and has allowed me to first-handedly witness how rapidly technology evolves and develops. Attending Clemson, a large university, as a young, undergraduate student, I yearned to get involved.
How did you get involved as an SMLC Intern? I met Amanda Moore, Associate Director of Clemson’s SMLC, as one of her students in a general education course my freshman year. I was given notice that she was taking a position with the SMLC and applied to be one of her interns, having no reservations to explore a field of study different than my own. With an interest in consumer psychology and its ties to branding and marketing, I decided that focusing on digital analytics would give me a unique perspective to bring into potential, future fields of work.
What is your favorite project you have done thus far? As an intern at the SMLC, one of the most memorable and unique experiences I have had was meeting and working with the VP of Digital for Def Jam Records and Clemson Alum, J.D. Tuminski. We were able to use Salesforce’s Social Studio and our learned knowledge to construct a comprehensive report of the label’s analytics and social media activity. We proposed and discussed new ideas that could further both the label’s platform and their represented artists’ presence on media sites.
Tell us about your personal project: My project is geared toward creating updated promotional material for Clemson’s SMLC, to spread awareness of the beneficial tools and resources it can provide to both on-campus groups and partnering organizations. My experience has given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge of digital analytics and the privilege to make connections with a wide array of individuals, ranging from on-campus groups to large corporations. I am grateful for my time learning and working in the SMLC, teaming up with six of the most insightful women to gain tangible work experience and knowledge to bring with me in future endeavors.
